I joined Pizza Hut’s VIP Club this weekend. Great marketing! You can order online. They  track your purchases with your phone number (thank you for no rewards card because my wallet is already stuffed). It costs $14 for a year. You get 2 free large pizzas plus coupons each month for free breadsticks. Each time you order 2 pizzas in one month you earn a coupon for another free pizza. So who is always on my mind when I feel like pizza?? Who is sending me coupons and free things that make me want to get pizza rather than make dinner? You got it, Pizza Hut. They had me buy in and now they’ll have my loyalty. They make it so easy that I wouldn’t want to bother getting it anywhere else. BTW, my favorite is the thin crust and surprisingly the Ham/Pineapple more than the Super Supreme.

Upselling on the Web

I’m trying to research ways to upsell on the web. One way is through email marketing (you buy something, and you suggest a related product or email them when a new product is available). Another way is through related products. Should these be in the checkout process? Godaddy.com seems to be really good at upselling in their space. It can get pretty sophisticated.

The end goal is to capture the lost upsell opportunities when people order online rather than calling in to order. When they call in the call center employee talks to them about other products. Right now the ordering is pretty much for one product only. We need to expand it.

Any ideas on how to upsell better on the web?
