First Days – Quit my Job

So the first two days were not that kickback. I had all sorts of tasks saved up that take a lot of time and need to be done during business hours. I like that I'm in charge of when my days starts, but it's tough to stop going once I start.

  • Looked into insurance options now that I'm self employed. Signed up for Aflak (2 hours).
  • Talked to accountant about setting up my business – an s-corp (still working on it).
  • Played with my new MacbookPro (pure fun, a little overwhelming with possibilities). Read more…

10x Marketing

I met with John at 10xMarketing yesterday. I'm pretty impressed. They offer a program to help you set up and manage an affiliate program. They'll let you know what is most cost effective for you – an affiliate network or affiliate software. Check out their pay-per-click management and search engine optimization offerings.
If you check it out, ask for John and let them know I (Janet) sent you. I'm digging affiliate marketing online and referring others to quality resources offline.

Working from Home: Work/Life Balance

Now that I'm taking the big plunge and quit my day job I'm thinking about how to be social. It's important that I have a balance of being social and working hard. I value my coworkers and the atmosphere where you can go to lunch with your work friends.

I need to find out about lunch groups and other places to meet with people in real life. I want to start going to the lunch group in Salt Lake, the 20-30-something arts group for the ballet and symphony. I may start a web marketing group too. I'll go to more conferences and lectures (looking forward to that!).

I don't want to get carried away but I like to plan ahead to avoid becoming isolated. Time flies past when I'm working on things I love. Now that I'll be closer to Salt Lake at least part of the time I can plan things there. Some people are fine with being on their own but I'm pretty social and have to consider that.

Any suggestions?

Telux VoIP Call Centers in Utah

http://www.telux.net/

My friend Dave sets up VoIP call centers in Utah. He's really, really good. He's also the only one in Utah doing this. So far he hasn't advertised, his business is booming. He left the company call center where I work (for 2 more days) about 3 years ago. Every time I talk to him it's a new deal or big sale. Nothing but good news. I hope to do an article on him for Connect (after I get further down the 'to do' list).

Check it out.

If it’s not on my Bloglines…

I probably won't read it.

I realized I haven't added all my fav blogs or sites to my Bloglines. I think using (or any other blog reader) makes me smarter. I can easily stay updated on the things I'm interested in. Bloglines is a blog aggregator.

With Bloglines I don't have to click to the actual blog to get most or all of the story. One site, one interface. I read a lot of blogs not on my blogroll that are on my Bloglines. I need to find a good Omniture blog.

If you like my blog, don't miss another post. Here's the feed to add my blog to your Bloglines: http://newspapergrl.wordpress.com/feed/
