FatWallet Makes Right
The very thing that helped catapult FatWallet’s web traffic is doing the same for my blog today. When WalMart and other big retailers tried to sue FatWallet it made national headlines. It helped put them on the map. My blog entry hasn’t hit the mainstream press but it has gotten a lot of attention.
If I had the time and outlet my story would be on the quirkiness of online forums. I find them very interesting. I try never to post because most of them are negative (but that’s what gets people’s attention).
MarketingSherpa makes the point that there are many types of people out there. Some are blog people (me) others like email or prefer to read articles or whitepapers. I’ve concluded that I’m not a forum person. I’m partial to Jeremy Palmer’s forum because it’s helpful and informational. The tone is open and inviting.
Thanks to FatWallet founder Tim Storm (great last name) and Paige for addressing my concerns.
All companies should have google alerts on their company name. They should search Technorati to see what people are saying about them. Then you have an opportunity to learn and improve customer service. As they’ve shown, the way you handle negative press makes a big difference.

Tim,
How’d you find my blog? technorati search/RSS? google alert? I’m recommending CEOs know what people say about their company. I’d like to know what you use to monitor your company name.
Best
Janet
