Recommended Sleep for Bloggers

I rarely remember dreams but I remember one line from last night. I read this. Maybe it was in the newspaper. It said: recommended hours of sleep for a blogger: 10.

My awake dream is to be the international travel blogger. I could stay at hostels and keep my blog jobs. I could slow down enough to take pictures. First stop: Thailand. Then Tahiti. And before that, lots and lots of sleep. I know you can sleep a lot when you’re dead but seriously it’s time for some catch up!

CraigsList vs. Elance

I have used both Craigslist and eLance to find people for small jobs. Recently I posted a position on Craigslist. I was looking for someone to assist me with my bookkeeping and learning Quickbooks. Just 2-5 hours a week, $10 an hour (I didn’t know what to pay) and also some blogging tutorials. I had so many applicants. Many had accounting degrees. And best of all they are local.

With elance there are checks and balances so that everything is on the record. It’s set up for easy payment and terms. But honestly, the quality has rarely been good. My experience is that cheap overseas work = bad quality. Plus they are not close by for an in-person meeting.

Craiglist is the best way to make money online there is. Why? Because there is essentially no risk. If you need a banner designed…a wholesale supplier…someone to teach you something you need to know…someone to help you move…post a job or request on Craigslist.

P.S. If you want to search a bunch of cities at once, check out www.CrazedList.org.

College Student Scholarship Site Launched Today

College Student Scholarship site is officially launched!! It’s taken hours calling Libya to work out the domain. Sleepless nights by the team, but Scholar.ly is live!! The site was created in 36 marathon hours from an idea that Paul Wilson had to make college scholarships available for any student. We have great dreams for the site but right now it’s just a new baby.

We also officially gained ownership of another site today. It has nothing to do with college student scholarships. I’ll blog about it when we’ve done the redesign with screenshots of before and after. What an amazing day.

Scholarly gives college students scholarships based on the music (the music scholarship), photography (the photography scholarship), video (the film scholarship), or essays (the English scholarship) they submit. They get friends to vote on their submissions and we give out a scholarship once a semester in the different categories.

Top Blog Post so Far this Year - Blog Friends

Blogs are funny. I have all sorts of very useful posts. But since adding my new blog stats sometime this year, the most famous post is Blog Friends and Blog Foes. I wrote it flippantly almost. I didn’t put a lot of thought into it.

It’s about how my friend Chris Knudsen told me he’s so sick of me blogging about Twitter that he was unsubscribing to my blog. A few days later he said he’d started reading it again. lol. He’s also always threatening to stop blogging. But who can quit blogging? True bloggers have blogging in their blood! Even if you get busy and don’t blog for a while you’ll be back.

Like friends you can outgrow, get tired of, or otherwise stop reading certain blogs. Blogs I used to read religiously I no longer find the time to read. In fact, I’m not reading that many blogs lately. That’s my confession. It’s hard to pass by and not read but priorities are priorities.

I have a bit of an ADD like hyper-focus funk I’m in. It’s like nothing else exists. I expect it to last another few months.

This post is brought to you by GoDaddy - where I buy all my domain names except the domains I buy in Libya.
