If you’re a Utah reader, I hope to see you at this event where I’ll speak about internet marketing and search engine optimization for small businesses. This is sponsored by StartupPrincess (an organization for women business owners) and the Small Business Development Center in Orem, Utah.
Date: Thursday, April 17th
Time: 6:30 pm
Place: Provo Library, Third Floor (North-West room)

If you have any questions that you want me to answer, please leave it in the comments. I plan to go over basic SEO on your web site, starting with keyword research. I want to use an actual web site of one of our attendees to demonstrate.

I’ll have a handout with free tools and web sites to help - including getting listed on Google Local.

Hope to see you there! I believe the cost is $10 but I’ll update this when Kelly posts about the event.

Janet, I am a brand new member of the Startup Princess Network, and your event will be my first. I am so excited for this opportunity to learn from your expertise. I am impressed by your resume. (And I almost majored in Conservation Biology at BYU so I feel a kinship :)) My company, Savvy May Creations, is just barely getting off the ground and I would love all the help I can get. If you are still looking for an attendee’s site to use, I would love to have you use mine. We are introducing a product called Cap Trappers to the market. They are an ingenious little solution to lost caps and dry markers, born out of lots of frustration when I taught school and now as a mom. Anyways, check out the website: http://www.savvymaycreations.com. We are currently working on a rebuild, my webdesigner has her own women-owned Utah county company. Thanks so much for considering us. Regardless I look forward to meeting you next Thursday. I am also adding a blog, and would love your tips on what will help make it successful and keep people returning to my site. Thanks Janet!

I am so excited about this event! I’m trying to clear my schedule to come. Hopefully it will work out. I’m very interested in the keyword research. I’m building my website in Dreamweaver CS3 and want to make sure I’m getting my keyword tags correct for each page. I am also wondering about getting solid links to my site to improve my Google ranking. If no one else offers, I’d love for you to use my site, TheTeachingExperience.com whether I’m able to attend or not. And, last but not least, I don’t have a product so I’m interested in other options for generating revenue. Thanks. I hope to see you next Thursday!

Rebecca, Since you’re the first to request it I will focus on your site. It’s a bit tricky because it’s a product that people won’t know to search for but it will let us be creative.

@Amber - you’re on the right track but some keyword optimization would be a big help. You have a lot of quality content. You can add affiliate links (change the links to the books for starters). You could also do AdSense on some pages.

You can also leverage your blog to get backlinks and of course leave comments on other teaching blogs.

Hope tomorrow will be informative and look forward to meeting you there!

Janet has been a prolific speaker in this arena of internet marketing and it would be apt if we call her the “Internet Marketing Guru.”
