So you think You’re a Web Marketer
Pet peeve: You say you’re a web marketer but their are no search results on your name. You’re not on social networks and are unfamiliar with the techniques that you recommend to your clients.

Couldn’t agree more. Once had a phenomenal argument with a PR guy who wanted to manage the social marketing campaign for the company I worked at. He didn’t blog himself, barely read blogs (only the most popular ones) and wrote in a “smarter than thou” way. Yet he thought he was a much better expert on blogger than I was - despite my 3 years of blogging and networking, and a PR 5 blog.
And the worst thing was, my company backed him because he cost over $120/hour and so must know more. Made me absolutely furious and is one of the reasons I quit.

I hear you on that, but with all the psydonyms people use online its difficult to judge just based on a first name who the person is. For example, I post comments typically under the name JB, rather than my actual name, Jonathan B… I’m online blogging (albeit, not near as much as I should to consider myself a “true” blogger) and participating in blogs, but finding me may be a little difficult. Granted, I DO NOT consider myself a Web marketer, so my example is flawed to begin with.
That said, there is a lot to be said about companies not drinking its own kool-aid. For example, it’s important for an SEO company to be ranked under the search terms it believes describes the company. It’s like the age old adage: “If you’re going to talk the talk, you’ve got to walk the walk.”
