Wow. Today I posted a deal on FatWallet in the “free” forum. It’s for a free t-shirt at Smartest Of All. You send in your favorite network war story and you get a free shirt. Simple. If you go to the site it says, “sponsored by Cymphonix” where I work.
First it got moved from free to a contest. That’s because it said something about how if you’re story is really good you could be deemed the SMARTEST of ALL! They said that means it’s not a freebie but a CONTEST. OK.
Someone said it was spam. Someone else said I must work for the company. I replied, clarifying that I work for the company that sponsored the site. Many times I expressed the desire to follow the rules, said it was my first time, asked where I could find more information.
No mercy, no help. I told the moderator she was being meanspirited. She immediately deleted my post, told me not to write her again, and said she could be much meaner (um, how???).
Hostile. FatWallet is so anti-corporate but the funny thing is they are a corporation too. This is my second run-in with them. There are evil corporations just like there are evil people. I steer clear of both.
The t-shirt and the site has no advertising on it. I posted from my own account. Every free thing they post is made by a company. They have brand names. Talk about biting the hands that feed…FatWallet leaves a bad taste in my mouth once again.
Update: The rude person wasn’t a moderator, but a regular on the site.
