Lead with Content Promote with Passion – This is the refrain from the Buzz Boosters seminar about promoting informational products. The longer I listened the more ideas I got. I love being in the room when people talk about internet marketing. I start thinking of all the ways I can apply everything. I used to judge things (remember the Internet Marketing Super Conference) to not be my style but now I am more open-minded.

Remember that getting the product out is more important than getting a product perfect. These are low cost investments and you can do short runs and improve as you go.

Bloggers (I just got my friend Paul into blogging and he blogged about this too – the Buzz Booster event) are a great way to promote your informational products. Buzz Booster said blogs were a big part of their marketing effort on their internet marketing game (it’s sold out). If you don’t know how to approach bloggers or are not one, I suggest asking one (there’s another product). Here are some notes and thoughts.

Types of informational products:

  • ebook (sell through Clickbank, Yepic, or PayLoadz
  • audio book (CD reading of book)
  • podcast (iriver is a basic recorder)
  • physical book, usually small runs at first (see ZDocs blog http://www.howtopublishabookblog.com/) get an ISBN number (sold in groups of 10 for around $200, each edition needs a new one)
  • DVDs (video) or use Camtasia tool to record screen shots and Audacity to edit
  • Pre-loaded ipods (not sure how to do this)
  • Titles of your products are important, ask 20 people to rate a list of titles from 1-20 (use Mechanical Turk, LinkedIn Answers, email your friends, etc).

I love this idea – hire a transcriber: I can’t find AmericanTranscribers.com, a site they mentioned they like (looks like this company could use some SEO help). They hire stay-at-home moms to transcribe video or audio to print for about 2 cents a word. Plus a quick 2-day turnaround.

If you have a favorite ebook cover designer, please comment. Once you finish a product, use it to build on the next one.
