Social Media Retreat – Utah Outdoors
It’s the rage to contact mom bloggers who you want to talk about your products. Or should I say, offer trade. The terms of the trade usually go like this: you give me free things, I write a growing review about them. I get free things, you get exposed to my community.
Why this works best with women: women love to talk and share information. Especially bloggers who tend to be more opinionated and vocal than the average woman. Plus, women make many purchasing decisions for their households.
Additionally, research shows people are more likely to read blogs to get opinions on products from blogs (here’s the research about blogging and social networks in PDF). The study says how women use social media to connect with friends and to strengthen existing relationships. I wrote about this for the American Express Open Forum and will link when it’s live.
I’ve been putting off writing about an event I attended last week. I’ve tweeted about what I loved about it. I loved fly fishing. Which was a total surprise to me. I didn’t want to get out of the water. The guide knew it (our guide was Scott Harmon csharmon@ix.netcom.com). I really wanted to catch a fish, like Heather did. But I hoped to catch one for dinner the next night. But we didn’t get much time on the river (I wouldn’t recommend going with the outfitters we went with but our guide was good) and I just worked on casting.
See the rest of the pictures on Flickr – the photographer Jennifer of Fotohok was so good.
Here’s a video of Marie of makeandtakes.com Jennifer, Heather and April: watch?v=OvbxhdEXh0g
April (read her post on the trip) got so many sponsors that we were showered with gifts. I’m a person who loves trying new things and hates to throw new things out. So I really love being able to try new things without risk.
It was fun just being with everyone in such an amazingly gorgeous place. Good food too (I still dream about the cupcakes which were the best I’ve ever had).
I’m impressed with the generosity of the sponsors (Sorel even sent samples of their new line of Winter boots. Now I covet these camel colored pair and hoped to win them but I didn’t – no complaints though):

There are some more fun things coming up!In the meantime check out these posts about the event:
