The survey by Shawn Collins about what affiliates will or won't promote is in.
Shawn asked of “a couple hundred” affiliates (take into account they are reading Shawn's site so they are probably above average).
It reveals that for affiliates, roughly half have no problem promoting drinking and gambling sites. Most draw the line at porn and drugs.
I never want to promote anything I don't believe in or wouldn't want to admit I promoted. For me, that's everything on this list. However, sometimes the industry is trendsetting. You can study their techniques and apply them to other products.
When it comes to choosing what to promote as an affiliate, choose things you know a lot about and enjoy. Or things that are profitable which you don't object to. I say if you love something that's profitable, do that. If what you love is too obscure, you probably won't make money on it.
This here is another proof that “the love of money is the root of all evil”. One third of the population has no problem linking to porn, as long as it pays? He should have asked, what would you not link to for money?
Sorry Jordy, I do NOT agree with you here.
The simple truth is that they found 1/3 of the
pop has no prob linking to porn. So what’s the
prob with that? For that 1/3 who want it and enjoy,
its simply entertainment and a diversion. The LOVE of
money really has NOTHING to do with it, aside from the
fact that bottom line, it must be profitable and feasible !
So as long as a nice segment of the pop wants and enjoys
it as fantacy entertainmant, who cares? The idea that
somehow all things that are entertaining, fun or
pleasurable must be SANITIZED FIRST seems somehow wrong
and against the freedoms we so deeply seek to protect !
Interestingly, the courts have ruled likewise !
